Emily is a painter and sculptor who lives and works in New York. She was recently awarded the 2013 Edward Albee Artist Residency and was featured in Art In America. She has had solo and group exhibitions all across the U.S. and the globe. Join us, October 9th on the 2nd floor of the Library in room 242, and welcome Emily as she shares her work and experience with us!

In early March, Dan DiDio will be interviewed in Woody Tanger auditorium by Christopher Iriving, who has written a history of comics (DATE TBA on this blog). Dan DiDio is a BC alum (’83). In 2010, he was named Co-Publisher partnering with acclaimed comics artist Jim Lee and spearheaded the company-wide initiative known as the New 52, in which DC’s entire line of comics have restarted with new number ones catapulting the line to higher sales than ever before. He has written a “Metal Men” strip for the anthology Wednesday Comics and is currently co-writing a Jack Kirby relaunch titled O.M.A.C. with writer-artist Keith Giffen.
Christopher Irving has written comic book history and journalism since 1997, helping to garner the “Best Comics Related Periodical” Eisner award for Comic Book Artist Magazine. His next book, Leaping Tall Buildings, is due out in April 2012.

The Ethyle R. Wolfe Institute for the Humanities, in cooperation with the Department of Art,presents Mona Hadler is a professor of art history in the art department at Brooklyn College and the Graduate Center. She has published on the art of Lee Bontecou in many venues including an essay for the traveling Bontecou retrospective shown at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2003. She has also written on New York art of the fifties and sixties including essays on jazz, the nuclear bomb and most recently on the Pontiac hood ornaments from that era.
The Art Department will be hosting a barbeque for students and faculty on Tuesday, September 21, at 4:30 pm to
welcome everyone back for the new school term and enable the students to
meet each other and the faculty.
The barbeque will be held outside of Whitehead Hall in the sculpture garden.
