Internship in Photo/Video Documentation for Arts in Education

The Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC), a nonprofit arts organization, seeks an intern to document programming for arts in education programs. The intern will work under the supervision of the Director of Arts in Education (AIE), with task oversight from additional team members.

Responsibilities:

Within the context of documentation, including but not limited to, photographing programs, organizing photos, obtaining photo release forms, editing photos & videos, and working with BAC’s communications department to create appropriate documentation for publication. In addition, the intern may be responsible for filing, data entry, phone management, photocopying, research and draft development of marketing materials and content for the website www.brooklynartscouncil.org. The intern will work as an integrated member of the AIE team and provide organizational support, gaining a comprehensive view of the array of directives BAC is involved with, from fiscal sponsorship to Folk Arts. The intern will offer insight, observations and suggestions pertinent to the work experience.

 

Preferred background:

The intern will have an explicit interest in the arts and youth; be currently taking or have recently completed courses in the arts, studio work, education, and/or, sociology; have strong oral and written communication skills; have experience taking and editing photographs and video; be computer literate (Excel, Photoshop, etc.); be a self-motivated and independent worker; have a solid sense of humor; be a fresh thinker; and have great interpersonal skills.

 

Arts in Education Documentation & Administrative tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Photograph and otherwise document AIE programs (requires extensive travel within NYC)
  • Organize photographs, videos, and other documentation
  • Collect and organize photo/video release forms
  • Edit photos/videos and prepare for web and print media
  • Assist with tracking AIE programs
  • Assist with preparing grant reports
  • Maintaining & updating AIE contacts database

Specific projects assigned will vary depending on the dates of the internship. The intern may also work on tasks/projects within other BAC departments as needed.

 

Commitment:

Travel allowance included for prodigious travel throughout Brooklyn (primarily); requires the intern to have a flexible schedule; most significant need will be for afterschool program documentation (2:30-6pm).

Minimum:  14 hours/week for 12 weeks

Preferred: 21 hours/week for 12 weeks
