Calling all printmakers! Art contest that will also help low income NY’ers

We are calling for ten 11″ X 17″ color prints to use in advertising the Tax Benefits Project for very poor New Yorkers, run by the Women’s Center for Education and Career Advancement (WCECA).  $50 will be paid for each print used.  You submit the print by November 1, 2014.  We will copy it onto posters and postcards and return the original to you. You have the copyright on your print; WCECA will use it solely for this project unless we get specific permission from you.

Description of the Tax Benefits Project

NYC’ers whose income is too low to necessitate filing income taxes (those on Public Assistance, Disability, SSI,  low Social Security, just food stamps, or the street homeless) can still get a $62.50 NY State tax refund. ($250 if one also files for three back years.) The Tax Initiative consists of several soup kitchens and shelters that will help NYC’ers apply for the refund, and an artistic push designed to bring in qualified applicants.

Description of prints needed:

Your print’s message should be something like the following:

(on PA, food stamps, low SS or SSI, or nothing)

You can get a tax refund.

            We will help you apply.

We would like prints that integrate text and design.  The adjoining poster concerns a different topic, but demonstrates the idea of making the words part of the graphic, and using color effectively.

  • By November 1, 2014, submit your print as a JPEG attachment to: Subject line:  Tax Benefits Project submission
  • By December 15, 2014, WCECA will choose ten, pay each chosen artist $50, and borrow the original print to copy onto posters and postcards.
  • Between January 15, 2015 and April 15, 2015, these posters and cards will be distributed throughout the neighborhoods of the soup kitchens and shelters of the Project.
