Hurricane… and information about getting back to school

Hello BC Art Department,  I hope this post finds you with what you need, safe and dry, hopefully with electricity, water and a roof over your head.  A few notes that I thought would be helpful:

  • Brooklyn College is resuming classes tomorrow (Friday) and we should all expect commutes to be tough.  Click Here for the link to the MTA to learn which subways and buses will be running when and where.  The quick answer is that if you can get yourself to the Atlantic Subway stop, the 5 train will run from there all the way to Flatbush.  All buses are running with limited service in Brooklyn.  Please leave yourselves LOTS of time to get to classes.
  • In Brooklyn at least, gas shortages – or in some case complete outages – are being reported, so driving is not a great idea – save that gas! Gridlock has been epic, so it will take you so long it won’t be worth it.
  • If you are driving, there is a ride sharing tool that ITS setup:  The web links to the tool are provided below and the same links will soon be published in the portal and on the college web page.
    Create your RideShare (carpool) offer:
    https://websql.brooklyn.cuny.edu/carpool/create_car_offer.jsp
    Search existing offers:
    https://websql.brooklyn.cuny.edu/carpool
If any issues are noted with the RideShare tool, please contact ITS at 718-951-5861.
  • IF you can walk or ride a bike, that is really the best way to get to school
  • If you are unable to get to Brooklyn College for your classes, if you can let your professors know, please do so right away.  It is very difficult for us to help you make up assignments and help you to not fall behind if we don’t know when you are coming back to class.

Best wishes to you and your families!
