Call for interns – Brooklyn Museum

INTERNSHIPS AT THE BROOKLYN MUSEUM–Arts of Africa, Asia, and the Islamic World

Position Description:
The Arts of Asia, Africa, and the Islamic World collections at the Brooklyn Museum seeks curatorial interns for the fall semester. Prospective candidates must be able to commit to at least 1 full work day (10am – 5pm) or 7 work hours per week until December 2012. The internship is unpaid, but we welcome applicants seeking school credit.

The intern will provide the curatorial staff with collection documentation support while gaining experience directly relevant to future museum or arts careers. Our current major projects involve collection surveys, digital imaging, data entry, and archive management. The intern will be properly trained in methods of handling art objects, as he or she may be asked to accompany curatorial staff to storage areas during collections documentation projects.

Qualifications/Requirements:
An ideal candidate would be enthusiastic, dependable, and flexible with office skills and an interest in museum work and/or Asian, African, Pacific Island, or Islamic art. Knowledge of collection areas, collections management software, and relevant foreign language skills are a plus.

Starting Date: October 2012

Internships normally take place on a rolling basis, but applications for Fall 2012 should be received by October 1, 2012.
