Undergraduate Student Paid Internship in Art Museum Education: 2011-2012

Dear Educators,

It¹s my pleasure to invite your students to apply for The Rubin Museum of
Art¹s Apprentice Museum Educator (AME) Program, an Undergraduate Student
Paid Internship in Art Museum Education.

The Apprentice Museum Educator (AME) Program at the Rubin Museum of Art
provides essential hands-on skills to university students preparing for
future careers in arts or museum education. Program participants will leave
with an understanding of the inner workings of a museum education
department, Himalayan art and culture, and necessary public interrelation
and education skills that will prepare them for the future. Apprentices are
trained to utilize inquiry-based teaching strategies and receive weekly
training on the collection and special exhibitions. Apprentice duties
include giving tours to incoming school groups, assisting Museum Educators
to give offsite pre-visit lessons at schools, and assisting with Teen
Programs. Apprentices work closely with the Teen and College Program
Coordinator and receive mentorship by Education Staff.

To participate, students must:
· Be enrolled in an undergraduate program in a New York City College
or University (Education majors or strong interest in a future career in
Education encouraged)
· Be able to provide services for two consecutive semesters (Fall
and Spring)
· Work 15 hours per week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays)
· Be at least 18 years of age; have a Photo I.D.; Social Security
Card and email address.

Applications for the AME program are due June 10, 2011. Once applications
have been accepted, a formal interview process will begin in late June and
July. Program will start in early September. Please find all application
