Internships at the American Museum of the Moving Image

Museum of the Moving Image is now accepting applications for Fall 2010
semester-long, for-credit unpaid internships. Qualified candidates will be advanced
undergraduate or graduate students pursuing degrees in Cinema Studies, Media
Studies, American History, English, or a related field.
Under the supervision of department heads, interns have the opportunity to become
familiar with the full range of Museum operations, and to work on projects related to
the January 2011 opening of the Museum’s renovated and expanded facility. Applicants
must be able to work at least ten hours per week at the Museum between 9:30 a.m.
and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Collection Research and Cataloging: Interns will assist in researching and
cataloging silent film era holdings, and will provide support for the reinstallation
of the Museum’s core exhibition Behind the Screen.
Collection Management: Interns will become fully familiar with the collections
management function, including the storage, maintenance, and conservation of
objects. Interns will also contribute to the completion of the collection inventory.
Curatorial Assistant: Interns will assist in administrative support and production
coordination for Real Virtuality, the Museum’s inaugural digital media art exhibition
opening in January 2011.
Digital Imaging: Interns will assist with the digital photography and scanning
of artifacts in the Museum collection and institutional archives.
Digital Media: Interns will assist with the development, production, and design
implementation of the interactive exhibits within the Museum’s core exhibition.
Film: Interns will assist in research and preparation for the Museum’s film programs
to be presented in its new theaters beginning in January 2011.
