Great Paid Teaching opportunity for artists

Materials for the Arts, is NYC’s oldest reuse program supporting the arts and cultural community and NYC public schools. MFTA’s education program runs classes that are certified through the NYC Dept of Education’s After School Professional Development Program. This fall we are holding two classes on Saturdays for a period of 10 weeks. We are looking for an assistant to work with our two teaching artists. Tasks will include but are not limited to:

Prepping materials for classes

Assisting participants during class

Creating samples and prototypes under the direction of the teaching artists

Researching specific themes as pertinent to class curricula

Setting up and cleaning of classrooms

Running errands if necessary

Applicant should be familiar with the NYS and NYC standards for arts education and associated language and terminology, be able to work independently and efficiently under pressure, and possess good communication skills

Interest in the reuse and repurposing of materials is a must. Applicant should be creative, hardworking, energetic and upbeat. A sense of humor is appreciated.

Time commitment: Beginning in mid September – mid December 2010 – 10 Saturdays in the fall (7 hours per day) plus 7 hours of prep time before and 7 hours debrief time after. A stipend of $1000 for the time period is available.
