BROOKLYN, NY

An exciting new arts district is forming in south Brooklyn. Over the past three years, artists from Bushwick, Williamsburg, Manhattan, and as far away as Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America are creating a vibrant artist community at the NARS Foundation studios in Sunset Park.

NARS Open Studio weekend, May 15th and 16th, offers the public a rare opportunity to meet and view the work of more than sixty emerging and mid-career artists from all over the world. Painters, printmakers, video and sound artists, and sculptors who have exhibited locally, nationally, and internationally will be present and available to discuss their work.

NARS Studios will be open 11 AM to 6 PM on Saturday and Sunday for self-guided tours. Two curated exhibitions will also be on view during the Open Studio event:

·         “’Round the Mulberry Bush,” curated by Alyssa Fridgen, explores the recent trend among artists to make use of the transformative nature of art to reconnect to their environment. The exhibition includes painting, sculpture, installations, and video artworks by Michael Paul Britto, Scott Geyer, Cosme Herrera, Zerek Kempf, Kyung Han Kim, Roberta Lawson, Conor McGrady, Hyo Nam, Sean Noyce, Steev Scott, Jessica Scott-Dutcher, and Joseph Zuccarini.

·         “Stack Up,” curated by NuNu Hung, is a fundraising exhibition for the NARS Foundation featuring affordable art by NARS and visiting artists.
