Art Department Writing Tutors are back and open for business!

The Art Department Writing Tutors  specialize in writing about Art and are familiar with our expectations, they are great! Don’t wallow in fear over a paper, get yourself in to see them.

Our tutors are Paul D’Agostino and the other is Kurt Johnson.  Hosting hours in the Meier Bernstein Art Library, 5300 Boylan, you can drop in or make an appointment for help with:

  • getting a paper started
  • working on a particular writing problem
  • writing an artist statement
  • writing a thesis statement
  • …and more!

Hours for the Fall 2013 semester

Monday 9-12:30 (Paul)  and 4-6 (Kurt)

We are holding our annual Undergraduate Art History Symposium in the library auditorium. It will be open to the public. If you would like to be considered, please email a copy of your paper to mhadler by October 7th . If you are selected, you will have to work with your adviser to shorten your paper and turn it into a 20 minute presentation.

Professor Ball to speak on Thursday

The Brooklyn College Historical Society would like to extend a personal invitation to Art History majors to attend a presentation this coming Thursday (9/19) by Professor Jennifer Ball of the Art History Department. It is scheduled for 12:30pm to 2:00pm in Room 1112, Boylan Hall. Please see attached flyer.

Also attached is the Full Schedule for the Society’s Fall 2013 Speaker Series, which includes Professor Malka Simon later this fall. This series offers a great way for students pursuing degrees in History / Art History to meet professors, develop relationships with other students sharing their academic passion, and become involved in an organization producing exciting events catering to their interests. The Historical Society will also take an active, highly visible role in advocating for a Brooklyn College commitment to the humanities.
Please feel free to bring your lunch and attend.

The College Group at The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The College Group at The Metropolitan Museum of Art is a committee of approximately 30 local students who volunteer to help plan and produce events at the Museum for their peers. The Metropolitan is currently accepting applications for our 2013-2014 committee and they specifically are looking for some students from BC – so apply! Intern in a Brooklyn Sculptor’s studio

 SCULPTOR in Sunset Park, Brooklyn who works in various techniques and medias.
 A list of the medias would involve using wood, foam, cardboard, cement, plaster and metal.
Techniques like cutting and sanding, drilling and fabricating wood/metal, also working with
plaster, cement and paints to create certain visual effects.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Interns will assist an Art Teacher at Brooklyn New School, a public elementary school in Brooklyn. The school website is www.bns146.org.  Work involves prep and breakdown for classes,  assisting in imparting lessons, and installing student work for exhibitions at the school. Interns also install student work for exhibitions at the school. Art is integrated into many academic subjects at the school, from social studies to natural sciences. Time commitment is a minimum of three consecutive hours per week, morning or afternoon. Applicants should have experience with and interest in working with children.
