April 14, 2011A Night with Goodman
Please come to a book party/installation art party. The book party is for the book I published last year with Springer: Nominalism and Its Aftermath: The Philosophy of Nelson Goodman. The link is http://www.springer.com/philosophy/book/978-1-4020-9930-4?changeHeader
The art installation is also about Goodman, though it’s viewed a bit differently. There is:
an animation (of the image I always use – “The Wedding Procession” by Giotto – one of the women in the procession becomes animated, squishes between two other figures, turns into Goodman, and then [evil-ly] atomizes the whole scene into a bunch of quales),
a series of 72 images and a corresponding ‘plaque’ discussing quales,
a small room exhibiting an associated artist’s book that I did, and then onto the fabulous rooftop where there is a
performative aspect featuring several philosophers performing as philosophers while drinks are served [the bar is part of the installation: all students with IDs get a free beer.], saying things about Nelson Goodman and answering any questions viewers might have. [libel laws don't i believe apply in this situation]
In all, I just hope it is fun and that people will have a chance to engage with a little of Goodman’s ideas, on what ever level they feel comfortable with. It’s a sliding scale of intellectual endeavor.
The event will be repeated on three different Friday nights.
